MORE ABOUT ME...
I am a filmmaker, community organizer, educator, curator, founder and president of the Hip-Hop Association. I have been dedicated to elevating and innovating the community through the power of Hip-Hop culture for 15 years. I used my knowledge and experience in Hip-Hop culture, media, and education to form the Hip-Hop Association [H2A]. Now in its 6th year, the H2A has received a Union Square Arts Award and is considered one of the leading international Hip-Hop arts and educational institutions. I am the co-editor with Marcella Runell Hall of The Hip-Hop Education Guidebook Vol. I, the first ever book of its kind to offer an array of innovative, interdisciplinary standards-referenced lessons written by teachers for teachers. I am currently working on my second book entitled, Fresh, Bold, and So Def: Women In Hip-Hop Changing. I have been invited to curate, speak, moderate, and facilitate workshops at numerous arts and educational institutions, conferences, and social forums across the US and abroad. Through my own production company, Akasha Entertainment, I produce and consult for a diverse list of clients. These include: Hakuhodo Agency, Black Filmmaker Foundation, Americans for the Arts, UNESCO, Third World Newsreel, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, and the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education. I sit on the following advisory boards: The Middle School Task Force for the NY City Council, The Stop The Violence Movement, and the Hip-Hop Theater Initiative at NYU. In the Fall 2008, I will begin my Master's Degree on Hip-Hop as tool for Media Justice, Education Reform, and Social Enterprise at the Gallatin School for Individualized Study at NYU. I am also the recipient of the Catherine D. Reynolds Scholarship for Social Entrepreneur.
